According to police, the accident happened as a 33-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Blazer lost control for a currently unspecified reason. The vehicle then swerved to the right – thereby striking a vehicle in the far right lane – then swerved to the left and struck a concrete median. Then the Blazer reentered traffic and struck a van in the far left lane.
At the time of the crash, the man driving the Blazer was not wearing a seatbelt, and was partially ejected (i.e. thrown from) the vehicle. He suffered what were described as “severe injuries” for which he was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for treatment.
The three southbound lanes on I-355, from Army Trail Road to Roosevelt Road were closed for several hours, until nearly 10:00 a.m., as the crash investigation was conducted.
